Valgroup operates as an association of independent practices, which co-operate to a high level in a number of its endeavours, while each practice/firm retains its full autonomy. Valgroup's synergy operates in both an organised and in an informal way with significant benefits arising from its information networking, work assistance and referrals, yet this does not operate to the exclusion of any other valuable connections particular firms have developed. Valgroup exists to support and assist each member firm to operate fully autonomously in all respects.

Valgroup functions as a facilitating organisation that undertakes initiatives that are efficiently undertaken as a group rather than individual firms. Member firms retain full operational autonomy (Valgroup itself never undertakes professional work) and work typically involving a number of Valgroup firms is co-ordinated by an assigned 'principal' member firm for that project.
